Gen Rex Rambling: Going against the flow.

A lot of people are predicting full memory loss for Rex by the end of season three…

I’m actually going to predict the opposite.

If the Master Control Nanites/Metas are used to create the full Dominion Code, that gives whoever wields it mastery over all.  Even if Rex ends up in a situation where he goes full primal EVO, we could potentially have the Dominion Code in the mix alongside the Omega-1 (which also is a new and unknown variable in all this, something that Rylander himself referred to as “everything”), both of which could potentially prevent a full and permanent blank out.  What we have been set up for is a good scare, really.  It’s a threat that’s been looming since “Rabble” aired.  We’re bracing for it and if we see the primal EVO mode, our immediate want is to think the worst.

I believe that Rex has some sort of link to the Metas, possibly through the Omega and his genetic coding.  The equipment in Rafael’s lab was programmed to recognize users via their genetic code and prior to entering the lab, Rex was able to sense the presence of the Meta.  Additionally, when he laid hands on the Meta canister, the computers in the room began to activate.  I can’t help but think there’s something there, something that resonates between Rex and the Metas.  It could be that the reason the scientists hung onto the Omega and were so intent on guarding it was because while they felt safe enough in scattering the Metas (useless individually, apparently), they didn’t want to lose track of the Omega - “everything”, potentially the end all, beat all of all nanites in the right situation.  Something that Holiday already referred to as a “control nanite.”  Because if one does get a hold of all the Metas and gain the Dominion Code, how do you control something that controls everything?  Minus the Omega to funnel all that raw information and power, the Dominion Code could either be useless…or an out of control threat to everything that exists.  Additionally, the Omega is the only nanite on the planet that can create more nanites.  What good is coding if there aren’t enough nanites to carry out the programming?

It’s possible Rex has more control over himself and his nanites than he knows, anyway.  His primal EVO mode is apparently a product of his imagination, given it was a form he created on paper as a child with nothing but crayons.  It may have been the last thing he drew before the Event, the last “blueprint” he created, his nanites latching onto it and using it the way he now sees the blueprints in his head when he creates new Omega builds.  But again, it all comes back to control.  Something the Omega is supposed to help him with.

Whether or not all that would prevent full amnesia again, I don’t know.  I just think it’s something to take into account since with such a high level of mastery over everything, one would think that keeping one human brain from fritzing out wouldn’t be that difficult.

If Rex did end up blanking out again, it would be an extremely gutsy move on the part of the writing team and I would have to give them credit for having the courage to do that if it’s what happens.  On the other hand, wiping the slate clean would basically negate all of Rex’s character development from the very first episode and even a bit before, timeline-wise, and I think it’d be a horrible shame to lose all of that.  He’s stronger and more mature than he was fifty-some odd episodes ago and I think he deserves better than to have to relearn all those lessons over again.  My hope is that even if he does blank, it’s not permanent.  That it all will come back to him in time.  Or that the amnesia is only partial, leaving him with a few blank spots instead of one big empty void where he only recalls his first name.

Also, might as well toss this into my big basket of theories as well…  My fiance and I think that Van Kleiss will either end up a tragic hero by the end of all this or the biggest bastard of them all.  One of the two.  And if he fully sides with Black Knight, he might have the problem of the rest of The Pack not siding with him.
